Shopify Product List: How to See All Your Prices (and What the Community Really Wants!)
Hey fellow store owners!
As a Shopify migration expert and someone who spends a lot of time digging into what makes your lives easier (or harder!) on the platform, I often see common threads pop up in the community. One recent discussion really caught my eye because it’s a pain point many of you have likely felt: wanting to see product prices directly in your main product list.
The Quest for the Visible Price Column
Picture this: You're scrolling through your Shopify admin, specifically your "Products" list. You see product titles, inventory levels, status, categories – all super helpful. But what's often missing at a glance? The actual price! It’s something @agoge2024 brought up in a recent community thread, articulating a need many of us share: "Please add Price as an available column in the Products list... Merchants should be able to see prices directly in the Products list without entering an editing screen."
It sounds simple, right? Just another column. But for busy merchants, having that price visible instantly can save a ton of clicks and time. Whether you're doing a quick inventory check, comparing prices across similar products, or just getting a holistic view of your catalog, having that data readily available makes a huge difference.
The Current Workaround: Diving into the Bulk Editor
Unfortunately, as @Ploqo, a helpful community member, confirmed, "the Products list can’t show a Price column yet." Bummer, I know! But don't despair just yet. Ploqo shared a fantastic workaround that, while not a direct column on the main list, is currently the closest thing we have to viewing all your product prices in one go: the bulk editor.
Think of the bulk editor as a super-powered spreadsheet for your products. It allows you to see and edit multiple product details at once, including prices, without having to click into each product individually. Here’s how you can use it to get that price overview:
How to View All Product Prices Using the Bulk Editor:
- From your Shopify admin, click Products.
- Tick the checkbox at the very top of your product list. This usually selects all products currently visible on that page.
- Once you've ticked the box, a "selected" dropdown will appear. Click it and then choose Select all in this store. This is crucial because it ensures you're pulling up every product, not just those currently displayed on the page.
- With all products selected, click the Bulk edit button.
Voila! You'll now see a comprehensive list of all your products, each with its Base price clearly displayed. As you scroll down, more products will load. Remember, nothing changes until you hit that "Save" button, so you can browse freely without fear of accidental edits.
Want to See Sale Prices Too?
If you're running sales and want to see your "compare-at" prices (the original price before a discount), you can easily add that column in the bulk editor as well:
- While still in the bulk editor, click Columns at the top right.
- In the search box that appears, type
priceand then tick the checkbox next to Compare-at price.
Now you'll have both your current selling price and your compare-at price visible, giving you even more data at your fingertips.
The Community's Call for Direct Visibility
While the bulk editor is a lifesaver for managing prices and getting that full overview, it's important to acknowledge that it's still a workaround. As @agoge2024 rightly pointed out, "Merchants should be able to see prices directly in the Products list without entering an editing screen." It's about efficiency and having key data accessible without extra steps.
The main Products list already allows customization with columns like Status, Inventory, Category, and Vendor. Adding "Price" to this native list would be a significant quality-of-life improvement for store owners. It would streamline daily operations, make quick checks truly quick, and enhance the overall user experience within the Shopify admin.
This kind of feedback from real merchants like you is invaluable. It helps Shopify understand where the platform can be improved to better serve its users. So, if you feel this feature would benefit your store, don't hesitate to voice your support in the community forums!
For those of you just starting your e-commerce journey or looking for a platform that empowers you to manage your store effectively, Shopify offers a powerful and flexible solution. While some features are still evolving, the community actively helps shape its future.
So, for now, leverage that bulk editor trick to keep an eye on your pricing. And let's keep those feature requests coming – together, we can help make Shopify even better for everyone!
